Here is an excerpt:

Does he want her? Or does he want the goddess inside?

“You’re not doing anything I don’t want,” he assured her. He raised his hand and gently let beaded strands of hair slip gently through his fingers. “I know how serious this is. Believe it or not, I am a big boy and I can handle it—”

“—Can you really?” she asked, as tears spilled down her face. “What makes you so sure you’re not acting upon emotions evoked by Bastet’s influence?”

“I know how I feel about you and how you feel about me,” he answered.

“But how do you know any of it is real?”

“I trust my instincts, and I hope you’ll do the same.”

She wanted to believe him. She wished she could. But she had to ultimately face the truth that Jean-Marcel was only acting upon emotions conjured by the effects of Bastet inside her. So she shook her head with a miserable look. “I wish I could, Jean-Marcel,” she whispered sadly. “But I’m convinced that it’s not me you’re attracted to. Let’s not kid ourselves. What we had was wonderful, a dream come true for me,” she shook her head, “but it’s still just a dream and it’s time to wake up—”

“—What are you talking about?”

“Come on,” she said, trying to pull out of his embrace, but he resisted. “We both know I’m not exactly the type of woman you’d normally be seen with, am I?”

“You really need to stop selling yourself short, Jaydee,” he said as he looked deep into her teary eyes. “Aside from the fact that you’re smart, witty, unapologetically confident and strong, you’re very attractive. Beautiful even. And it’s high time you accept those facts.”

“Really? Just like that?”

“Yes, really. Just like that,” he answered without hesitation.

“Then tell me, Jean-Marcel,” she began with pain flashing in her watery eyes, “had you seen me on the streets, or in a bar, or at a restaurant three weeks ago, would you have given me the time of day?” She slowly shook her head. “We both know the answer to that. We both know how you thought about me the first time we met at my home and again at Harvard.”

“People change, Jaydee,” he said. “Even fools get wise every now and then.”

She shook her head. “Not under these unnatural circumstances, they don’t.”

  3. What an AWESOME excerpt!
My heart was stolen by a fellow I totally thought was out of my league. Luckily, he didn't think the same way. That was one HOT summer.

    1. Thanks, Dee! I'm happy to read you've enjoyed the excerpt. Now I'm wondering why you believe that the guy that had once stolen your heart "luckily didn't feel the same way". Hm...what coulda been...

I always have crushes on guys that are out of my league, lol. But there was one guy that I liked for a while when I was younger & we spoke all the time on the phone & on the computer(We lived in different states),... he was a super hot jock from Texas, & I was a little theatre geek from Massachusetts. I didnt think he'd ever like me like that & I was just happy to be friends with him. Then like 10yrs later he tells me that he had a crush on me & I was just shocked. I couldn't believe it. By that time he was going through stuff & the timing just stunk. I lost touch with him, but I hope he's doing well. =)

Thanks for having this giveaway! Take care!

    1. Wow! Thanks so much for taking the time to do all of that, Brandi. As I've said above, don't worry that I'll ever bother you. I just enjoy having a lot of friends.

What a wonderful story! I appreciate you sharing it with me. It's definitely a nice subject for a romance book. Maybe you should look into writing one based loosely on your own experience? Just a thought. ;-)

Thanks for entering the Cursed & Coveted Giveaway. I wish you good luck!

  5. Yes; I have had that feeling, more so after I've reached adulthood. It's always come as a shock to me, since I have a habit of underselling myself. I've joined your blog - I follow you via Twitter and email: michelle_willms at yahoo dot com

    1. Thanks, Michelle, and I'll be sure to return the favor!

I know what you mean by your comment that we have a habit of underselling ourselves. I guess we're realists and don't want to think of ourselves as better than we are - and apparently always "undersell" ourselves because of that stance. It makes for a great romance, though, don't you think? ;-)

  6. Yeah, I found the love of my life in a guy who was totally my opposite. As opposed to my introverted nature, he was funny, cheeky and flirty. Yet we found our true love in each other. :)

    All tasks completed! :)

    1. Thanks so much, Ray! They say opposites attract and usually make the best relationships. Not always (especially when they're very different) but usually.

Thanks for entering the Cursed & Coveted Giveaway and good luck!

    1. I'm sorry to hear that, Melissa. Some do turn out that way. :-( But I'm happy you didn't stick around for more and did the right thing for you. I'd like to think I'd have the strength to the same thing you did if things didn't work out the way I had hoped.

Thanks for entering the Cursed & Coveted Giveaway, and I wish you the best of luck!

  8. Follow GFC

Yes, my soul mate I am with now, I secretly crushed on him but was afraid to take it the next step because I had been hurt previously in the past .. He kept after me though, kept telling me he loved me when one day I finally let it slip that I loved him back. Though we have had our ups and downs we are together forever.
